Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 8, 2026 · Applies to all visitors of Bobbin & Form worldwide.
Bobbin & Form ("we", "us" or "our") publishes sewing and embroidery calculators, guides and glossary entries at www.bobbinform.com. This policy explains what personal data we collect when you visit, why we collect it, how long we keep it and the rights you have wherever you live. It applies to every visitor of the site, worldwide.
We aim for the smallest amount of data that still lets us improve the tools. We do not sell personal data, we do not run paid advertising trackers beyond website analytics, and every calculator works without an account.
Who is responsible for your data
Bobbin & Form is an independent publishing website operated by the site owner described in our About page. We are the data controller for the information collected through this website. Writing to hello@bobbinform.com reaches the person responsible for privacy here.
Data we collect
The calculators themselves run entirely in your browser. Numbers you type are computed locally and are never transmitted to us or stored on a server.
- Usage analytics — pages visited, approximate country and device type, referrer and session counts. Collected with Google Analytics (see the Cookie Policy for the exact cookies).
- Cookie-consent choice — a single first-party cookie recording whether you accepted or declined analytics cookies, plus the date and policy version you were shown.
- Newsletter email address — only if you choose to subscribe. Your address, the date of signup and the double-opt-in confirmation are stored with our email-service provider.
- Data you send us voluntarily — emails to our contact address, including the address itself and whatever you write.
- Server logs — our hosting provider may temporarily log IP addresses, user agents and request metadata for security and abuse prevention. This is standard for any website and is not combined with analytics profiles.
Why we collect it and the legal basis
Under the GDPR the processing above rests on two grounds. Analytics and non-essential cookies are processed only with your consent (Article 6(1)(a)), which you give or decline through our consent banner and can withdraw at any time. Operating a secure, findable website — server logs, abuse prevention, keeping content discoverable through search engines — rests on our legitimate interest in publishing and maintaining the site (Article 6(1)(f)). Storing your consent choice itself is a legal obligation (Article 6(1)(c)) under ePrivacy rules.
Newsletter delivery rests on your consent (Article 6(1)(a)) plus our legitimate interest in fulfilling the subscription you requested. You can unsubscribe from any email with one click.
Cookies and similar technologies
We set a small number of first-party cookies (our consent record) and, only after you accept, analytics cookies operated by Google. Third-party affiliate links (for example to Amazon) set their own cookies once you click through to those sites; those are governed by the third party's policy, not ours. The full inventory, lifetimes and management options live in our Cookie Policy.
Who we share data with
- Google Ireland LLC / Google LLC — Google Analytics 4 and consent measurement. Google acts as our processor; their handling is described in the Google Privacy Policy.
- Our hosting and CDN provider — delivers the site and keeps standard security logs.
- Our email-service provider — stores newsletter subscribers if and when you subscribe.
- No other third parties receive personal data from us, and we never sell it. 'Sale' and 'sharing' have their definitions under the CCPA/CPRA.
International transfers
The site is hosted and served globally, and Google's analytics infrastructure processes data in the United States and elsewhere. Where data moves outside the European Economic Area, United Kingdom or Switzerland, the transfer is covered by the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (and, for Google, the EU–US Data Privacy Framework where applicable). Equivalent safeguards apply for UK and Swiss data. Ask us via the contact address and we will explain the specific safeguards for any processor.
How long we keep data
- Analytics data: Google Analytics retains event data for 2 months by our configuration setting; aggregated reporting continues after that.
- Consent cookie: 6 months, then we will kindly ask again so your choice stays current.
- Newsletter subscription: until you unsubscribe, plus removal from provider records within 30 days of unsubscribing.
- Server security logs: typically up to 30 days.
- Emails you send us: as long as needed to answer you and keep ordinary business records.
Your rights
If you are in the EU/EEA, UK or Switzerland, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to processing of your personal data, to data portability, to withdraw consent at any time, and to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority. If you are in California, the CCPA/CPRA gives you rights to know, delete, correct and opt out of sale/sharing; we do not sell or share personal data as those terms are defined, so there is nothing to opt out of. Residents of other regions have comparable rights under their local laws.
Exercises of rights are free. Write to us from an address that verifies your identity and we will respond within 30 days.
Children
The site is general-craft content for an adult audience and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child sent us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes materially we update the effective date at the top and, if the change affects your consent choice, the banner will ask you to confirm again against the new version. The current text is always at this URL.
